Bryce Canyon June 2010 Part 1: Along the Rim

Bryce Canyon National Park is a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters on the edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in southern Utah. Erosion has carved colorful Claron limestones into thousands of spires, fins, arches and mazes. Collectively called "hoodoos," these unique formations are whimsically arranged and tinted with colors too numerous and subtle to name.
Bryce Canyon is named after Ebernezer Bryce, a Scottish Mormon immigrant who tried to raise cattle in this area in 1875. He soon gave up and moved on, calling the canyon that should one day bear his name "one hell of a place to lose a cow."

The photos were taken along the rim, when we did the 18 mls scenic drive.
